The liver is the chemical plant of the human body, dealing with all the toxins, disease and poisons we may encounter. Due to bad diet, sickness and stress, sometimes the liver needs healing and restoration. Milk thistle and its active component, silymarin, are famous for liver support. Because of its antioxidant properties, silymarin may help inhibit oxidative damage to liver cells. The anti-inflammatory effects of silymarin help keep liver cells from swelling in response to injury. Silymarin appears to encourage the liver to grow new cells, while discouraging the formation of inactive fibrous tissue. By changing the outside layer of liver cells, silymarin may also keep harmful chemicals from getting into liver cells.
