"Bromelain is a crude extract from the pineapple that contains, among other components, various closely related proteinases, demonstrating, in vitro and in vivo, antiedematous, antiinflammatory, antithrombotic and fibrinolytic activities."1Several studies have concluded that Bromelain has well-recognized properties, including anti-inflammatory, antithrombotic and fibrinolytic affects., 2,3,4
Under therapeutic uses on the NIH's pubchem database entry for bromelain are "Acute postoperative and post-traumatic conditions of swelling, especially of the nasal and paranasal sinuses."5
Precautions:
Pregnancy/Nursing: This should be safe to take while pregnant/nursing, but always consult a healthcare practitioner.
Blood Thinning Meds: Because bromelain acts as a blood thinner and little is known about how bromelain interacts with blood-thinning drugs, people on blood thinners should consult a healthcare practitioner prior to taking Bromelain.
