A Bentonite clay mask draws excess oils and debris to the surface of the skin, boosts circulation to tighten the skin and stimulate blood flow, and whisks away dead skin cells that can clog pores. You can add herbs and essential oils to soothe inflamed, painful skin and fight bacteria that inflame clogged pores into blemishes.
It has also been used to soothe various skin problems and as an ingredient in detox baths. A poultice of Bentonite clay can be prepared to calm eruptions such as acne as well as various skin irritations. Many types of itching can also be soothed by covering the area with a thick mud pack made of Bentonite clay and water. Apply and leave it on until it's dried and falling apart.
The recommended procedure to prepare a Bentonite clay bath is as follows: fill the tub to the desired depth. Add two to three ounces of Bentonite clay, mix, then soak in it for as long as you can. A poultice can be made by adding half a cup of clay to one and a half cups of water or until the desired consistency is reached. Mix it thoroughly and apply to the skin where needed.
