The Quaker herbalist Henry Box is quoted as saying, "A tea made from red raspberry leaves is the best gift God ever gave to women. Its utility in travail is surprising. As a drink before and after confinement, it is unequaled by any other agent. If the pains of childbirth are premature, it will make all quiet. When timely, it will occasion a safe and easy parturition. If the mother is weak, it will abundantly strengthen her, cleanse her and enrich her milk."
Red raspberry leaf tea is one of the most renowned herbal teas. It has a wide reputation as a female tonic for relieving excessive menstrual bleeding. It has been used historically and still is today at the suggestion of many midwives and birth professionals as a tool to prevent and relieve pregnancy-related nausea, to tone the uterus in preparation for childbirth, and to reduce the pain of childbirth. It also contains bitter compounds that have been used traditionally to relieve smooth muscle spasms.
Red Raspberry is high in the following nutrients:
Uses: Red Raspberry Leaves are mostly used for internal applications: teas, tinctures, capsules, food recipes, etc. Our favorite use is in teas. Like many other bulk herbs, we add it to many food recipes (salads, meat dishes, soups, stews, etc.) in small amounts for added nutrition and fiber without affecting the flavor. Red Raspberry can be used to benefit men, women (including before, during or after pregnancy, and nursing) and children. It can be used as often as you would like.
Storage: The nutrients in Red Raspberry Leaves are very sensitive to air and light exposure. Herbs should be kept in an airtight container, preferably glass, and stored in a dark, dry, and cool place. Refrigeration or freezing will protect your herbal investment even longer.
Our Beeyoutifully MoreThanAlive families love using Red Raspberry Leaf in a nourishing and soothing tea, combined with other herbs to drink on a daily basis. This recipe can be customized to individual needs and preferences.
Nourish and Flourish Daily Tea
- 4 cups Organic Red Raspberry Leaf
- 1 1/2 cups Alfalfa
- 1 1/2 cups Spearmint
- 1 cup Nettle Leaf
- 1/2 cup Cut Rosehips
Mix this recipe ahead of time and store in a dark colored glass container or zip-top bag if a glass container is not available and keep in a cool, dry, dark place. (It can be doubled or tripled to last longer for big families!)
One tablespoon of this mix can be used for every cup of hot water. Add raw honey and fresh lemon as desired for flavor.
An easy and fun way to make this (and any other loose herbal tea) is to put your coffee maker or French press to good use for a more nourishing, non-caffeinated purpose. Scoop Nourish and Flourish Daily Tea into a coffee filter, add pure water, and let the coffee maker or French press steep and filter the tea for you!
Important: While most obstetric health professionals agree that red raspberry leaf is beneficial in all stages of pregnancy (some even believe it reduces the likelihood of miscarriage), it is best to consult your own midwife, herbalist, physician, or other health professional before using Red Raspberry Leaves if you're pregnant or nursing.
Storage: Due to the Beeyoutiful's Herbs and Bulk Foods being organic or wildcrafted, there is a slight chance that there could be some naturally occurring bugs. Beeyoutiful takes precautions on our end to minimize the chances, but we do suggest that you store them in a cold area - possibly the freezer - in an air tight container.
