Hibiscus has long been valued for its beautiful flowers, and it's also edible and nutritious. It contains Vitamin C and antioxidants that can help boost the immune system.
The dried Hibiscus is considered a delicacy in Mexico. It can be used as garnish on desserts and salads, and generations of people have used the dried flower to create a tasty medicinal tea used for liver and heart ailments. The beverage is well known for its rich dark color, tanginess, and delicious flavor, and it can be served hot or cold.
In some cultures, it's believed that drinking Hibiscus tea every day is beneficial to individuals who struggle with high blood pressure. These same cultures also use Hibiscus as a gentle laxative and diuretic.
Hibiscus is also rich in amino acids that provide a tightening effect on the skin without stripping the skin of much-needed natural oils. Hibiscus contains an abundant amount of astringent properties beneficial for oily skin or hair. When used as a hair rinse, it strengthens the hair against breakage and split ends and detangles naturally curly hair.
Steep 1 tsp. of dried hibiscus petals in 1/4 cup of hot water until the liquid becomes a dark reddish purple. Once all the color is leached out, strain out petals. Add lime juice and the cold water/ice combination. Lastly, sweeten with raw honey or Rapadura. Use lemon slice as garnish.
Note: If you are on medications or have any health concerns, please check with your health practitioner prior to using Hibiscus.
Pregnancy/Lactation: There is some evidence that Hibiscus should be limited in pregnancy. We advise not using Hibiscus during your pregnancy at all. For lactation, please check with your healthcare practitioner or an herbalist before using.
Storage: Due to the Beeyoutiful's Herbs and Bulk Foods being organic or wildcrafted, there is a slight chance that there could be some naturally occurring bugs. Beeyoutiful takes precautions on our end to minimize the chances, but we do suggest that you store them in a cold area - possibly the freezer - in an air tight container
I have purchased this herb elsewhere and have always loved it. I was very happy with the quality and value with this product. I have already made some tea with these, and I started a tincture just a little while ago.
